Cassie Burns, New York

Cassie Burns is a multimedia dance artist hailing from York, ME. She has a B.S. in Mathematics with a minor in Dance from Tufts University in Medford, MA. Burns is currently an M.F.A. candidate in the Department of Dance at The College at Brockport, SUNY; her research focuses on the intersection of dance and technology. While at Tufts, Jaclyn Waguespack’s Dance on Camera course sparked Burns’s interests in video dance and the integration of technology into live performance. These curiosities are explored in her creative work, which she likes to use as an opportunity to push the boundaries of her comfort zone, as well as those of her dancers, through experimentation with various forms of technology. A lover of movement, Burns enjoys taking classes in as many different styles with as many different teachers as she can. Her eclectic training background has led to a wide variety of performance opportunities, ranging from 30-minute large-group modern dance pieces to short improvised bgirl solos. Most notably, she has performed in works set by Dante Brown, Tammy Carrasco, James Hansen, Jaclyn Waguespack, Daniel McCusker, and Audra Carabetta. For more information, visit

A few years ago she began to really see the beauty of things, of life, of the old, of the new, of the forgotten, of the quiet, and of what moved. She felt that the best way for the world to see those good and magical things around us, was to take a camera and try to reflect and show those fascinating things before her. In this last year she has worked as a photographer on several occasions (in an acrobatics club, in sports photography sessions, dinners, classes, activities in nature.
