Virginia's Most Unique Film Festival
What is Experimental Film Virginia?
Experimental Film Virginia, Virginia's most unique film festival. Launched in 2013 by a National Endowment for the Arts grant, Experimental Film Virginia is a celebration and an exploration, an art-soaked film-making residency for artists with live performance events for the community. It is the only film festival-artist residency where films are made in-situ and then immediately screened for the public.
We are innovative and entrepreneurial, created by artists for artists with audience and community experience in mind. The hybrid model encourages new relationships, collaborations and supports economic growth. The educational and creative design of the program builds a narrative for cultural tourism around the arts in a small town setting. We see this as an essential part of the ecosystem of artistic exchange and sustainability. We build global connections in the arts for Virginia starting with Cape Charles.
Managed by the 501c3 non-profit, GEAR (Global Exchange Arts Roundtable), Experimental Film Virginia is gaining momentum and expanding as we enter our 7th year this July.
